Default Help: Chagring problem

Im working on a friends 95 Camaro V6 and the volt gauge is very low. We tested it and it was charging and we changed the alternator anyway and that did fix the problem. Now I am wondering if there is something in the wire that goes to the alternator that could have gone wrong, or it has a fuseable link or what not. I If anyone would know that has had a problem like this, what went wrong? Thanks
