thumping sound
thumping sound Another one of those hard to explain deals but anyways.....When I am driving my car and when I make a turn or sometimes when I put my foot on the brake I get a 'thumping" sound and I seem to feel it in the steering wheel predominately. With the car turned off I lifted the hood and turned the wheel back and both quickly and I could hear the sound really well and it sounded like it was coming from the steering wheel shaft. It didn't look like it was hitting anything, so if it isn't hitting anything what could it be? Is it my power steering rack going or something else?
I get that too, not sure what it could be from. It's very slight though, only noticible with the windows down and no music. It only happens with the first application of my brakes after the gas. If the thump occurs when you hit the gas, it could be your transmission mount (if loud). If your tranny mount is broken, you'll get a pretty noticible thump.

Check to see if your driver's side header has any marks on it. The drive shaft might be hitting the header when turning. Mine has done it a few times and I finally noticed it when I was cleaning under the hood one day and put the two together.
