should i switch oil weights?

Default should i switch oil weights?

right now im running M1 5W30, from what i read this is thin and wont protect that good. should i switch weights, if so what to? i like M1 and they don't sell GC around here.

there you go man... check that out.. if your around an autozone, i called them and they told me that had NO idea what GC was.. I went in there and sure enough, it was on their shelves..

I wouldn't change weights unless you engin has alot of wear on it. Like the valve seals are leaking and so forth or if you have a decrease in oil preassure.

I would stay with the 5W-30 .

ugh get rid of 5W-30 for sure. if you want to stick with mobil 1, go with 5W-40 or 0W-40. the mobil 1 5W-30 is a borderline 20 weight. it's a 4 cylinder oil in my opinion - too thin for us LS1 guys...unless you like engine wear. hey, it's weight reduction, right?

my advice to you is to try german castrol 0W-30. WS6store is now selling it for $39.99 a case if you can't find it at autozone. here's a link:

it outperforms mobil 1 according to oil analyses.

unless your car already has wear on it i wouldnt switch....gm specs are for the 30w, a good oil...castrol...will not break down that bad, also heat should be more of the deciding factor on wether you change...even if its thinner it will flow faster then a thicker oil...its kinda a trade off to a point
