Did I mess up something?
So I just bought a 2000 5-Speed 3.8L Firebird with 40,000 miles. A day later I hit the interstate and, being a speed demon, have to hit it down to the floor.... 1st... 2nd... 3rd.... 2nd.... oh ****, car jerks to the right nearly losing it but fortunately I regained control and proceed to shift once more, this time hitting every gear perfectly.
Before I go on, I must say I have no damn clue how I went from 3rd to 2nd but it happened, I can't go back and change that fact but I do feel like an idiot for doing it.
Now, my question is, did I mess anything up? What is the worst the could happen in this situation?

That same thing happend to a friend of mine and he broke a couple of bolts from a rod but he went from 4th to 3th instead of 4th to 5th. I dont think that happend to you unless you hear a loud knocking sound in your engine. I dont think you have to worry much and like he said take it easy on the V6

Ok, I have noticed a slight knocking but it is most audible only near the doors. Should I have it checked out? Although I checked out everything before I bought the car, I can't remember hearing this knocking before.

Well, I just bought it a couple weeks ago but I do plan on becoming more mechanically inclined to do things to it but $$$ is an issue now. I remember hearing once that a lifter could cause your engine to knock. Is that a good place to start?

the drive train in ls1 cars for example is pretty loud by standards....v6s arent usually as loud...but they can be....many things can influence valve train noise from the type of gas you use...to slamming it into 2nd from 3rd....you can however choose to drop your oil pan and see if you can find any metal or metal shavings in the pan...this will give you an idea of whats going on...copper, or alumn. can give away things....you honestly should have had this done before you bought the car....read the stickies...and get you a haynes or chiltons manual....take your time when you do things, and have patient....like i said drive your car for awhile and notice if it gets worse and check back with some of the guys.....anything else?

Well, I appreciate the quick responses and I will feel alot more comfortable driving now. Like I originally said, this happened like right after I bought the car so it's been a couple weeks already and nothing major has happened other than the slight knocking that I was most concerned about. I'll see about doing the oil pan drop but i'll wait till the next oil change to do that since i'm going to put royal purple in it (i've heard alot of good about it). I'll keep you all informed.
Oh, something just came to mind... it's been raining a bit around here lately and i've noticed even with slight gas that i'm losing traction like crazy, can anyone recommend some tires for the stock wheels?

I am running the Conti Extreme Contact tires on my 02 WS6 and they are awesome. I live near the Tire Rack store in South Bend and a friend that works there recommended these to me and they have really been great. I find that they never hydroplane in the rain, they are very quiet and stable on dry pavement, and they look awesome with the aggresive tread pattern.
Check out the reviews of any tire you buy though:
