Default Airbag sensor?

My check airbag light blinks when I start my car and then stays on. I checked the drivers side airbag and it is still in-tact. I think my car has been in a minor front end collision before I bought it. Are there sensors around the car that tell the module under the center console to deploy the airbags or does the module do it all? Why would my airbag light stay on if I have both airbags hooked up? BTW, my car is a '98 Z28. Thanks, Steve.

Default

Handbooks says to replace module under console after wreck. Can't confirm if you have to but I did. 98 module has same number of pins as 99+ but different plug. Keep in mind if you try to get one used. No other sensors other than under console.

Easier way to solve is to tech II it can get describ of the code. I would take airbag off, unplug at bottom of column also and check the continuity of the wires in the column. Frequently, clockspring is broken.
