Help Bizzare symptoms! Need help! While driving to work today my car started making a slight ticking or knocking sound from under the hood? Noise sounds like it's coming from the driver side of engine.It only makes the sound when I press the gas, not on idle. Also idles kinda rough and has a slight hiss.
Any help would be appreciated.

Had a GM expeirenced guy look at it tonight and he thinks its the driver side doughnut ring or gasket, which seals the manifold to the exhaust. Does that sound right?

It turns out that the leak was coming from the exhaust manifold. After unbolting, the end of the gasket closest to the firewall was deteriorated pretty bad, which explains why the bolt on that side was loose.
So new question; should I use a gasket or not? Heard that the original motor was designed not to need a gasket?
