Default Verification, difference in cruise cables?

Just verifiying what I'm pretty sure I know. Only the traction control cars had an in-line adjuster in the cruise cable correct? I'm not talking about the one at the end near the throttle cable, but the one in the middle of the cable.

I purchased a replacement cruise module from a member here and he assured me it was from a non-traction control car, yet the cable attached has the inline adjuster.

Thanks,

Kevin D.

Hi. I have both styles of cables. The traction control cable does have an easily adjustable CLAMP style adjuster. The non traction control cable looks like it has an adjuster but the little clip is very hard to remove and it makes me think it is non adjustable.

I can take pics of either if you wish. Let me know.

You can easily tell if the module was from a non-traction or traction car by looking at the cable. If it has a red plastic guard and a black plastic clip on the end it is a non traction cable. If it only has a lead like metal connector on the end it is a traction cable. Just let me know if I am being too vague. Also the traction cable is ridicoulsy long (8 ft??) while the non-traction cable is only about 5.5 feet long.

Doh.. I was so concerned about the inline adjuster I never thought to look at the tips. It's definately a TCS cruise module.

Thanks,

Is the module itself different? or can either be used and you just end up having a longer cable.

They're different part numbers but I've yet to test it. The cables swap over, which will have to be done to even test it.

I know the LT1's had like 3-4 different part numbers for cruise, but the one remanufactured one I found replaces all of them. So the part number may just determine which cable gets put on it.

Do you know if you can get the cable by itself to swap over?

Yes, the cables easily inter-change. My main problem is the entire body and engine harness is transplanted into an older car. So even if they work the same and this unit does work, I may have other wiring issues.

That's why I was trying to get a known working non-TCS model to make sure my wiring is good. This just throws another unknown variable into the mix.

I'm transplanting into a 1969 Camaro. I'm trying to get the entire underhood harness to hopefully help with the conversion. I'll be studying the prints this week to see where the cruise gets all its inputs and what wiring I can remove from the donor harness.

I think the modules are interchangable.

I did the same in my car, (plus the entire interior harness and dash). I've tested all the wires out and they're good. According to the service manuals there's no reason it shouldn't work.

Unless you're running the entire body harness and not just using the relays/fuses for smog, fans, etc, I would just keep the cruise separate. Most of the wires come from the stalk and brake pedal, just one goes to the PCM.
