I'm an idiot

Well, after freeing my drain bolt for the oil and letting it drain I went after the filter. After an hour of turning and cussing I realized I was TIGHTENING it :bang: . What an ass I am. So now i've got a 98 T/A on Rhino ramps, with no oil in it and a crushed, death-grip tight filter  . Feel free to have a hearty laugh at my expense gang, I deserve it.

Craiggg Nov 14, 2006 03:41 PM

LoLz :)) :P I did that the first time I took my filter off.

09CPTN Nov 14, 2006 03:46 PM

I have a stronger guy coming over to help me out. Hopefully he can get it off. I feel like a mere husk of a man  .

Get an oil filter wrench, or you can loosen it by piercing it with a screw driver and turning - be extremely careful with the latter method.

Word, try an oil filter band wrench, of if it's actually crushed flat maybe a pair of vice grips.

Update: Friend came over with a filter wrench that fit, the filter came off. Got all the new oil in and the new K&N filter installed. My car tested full at 5.5 quarts, even with the long filter. Oil pressure is up 10-15 psi at idle(Car had shitty Kendall GT-1 SemiSYN when i bought it). I also seafoamed the oil prior to this change, and as I was told, it came out pretty dark. I noticed that after the GC went in that my car had the dreaded piston slap(never had it before). But it went away. IS it normal for the slap to come and then go like that? Also, is that piston slap that I hear harmful? And by the way guys, thanks for not laughing too much at my filter mishap. :)

:rotflmao:

Yeah that was the best laugh of my day. :D

Screw driver method works great. If the other guy can't get it off.

Good thing you got it off... I was going to suggest pulling the motor and replacing it with another motor that didn't have an oil filter seized to it :P

You'll get noise after an oil change until the oil is distributed throughout the engine.

I just wanted to giva a "thank you" to all of the members on these boards that reccomend the GC 0-30 and K&N HP2006 filter combo. It may cost a little more to go that route, but i've now got better oil pressure and a quiet motor.

2001NBMZ28 Nov 15, 2006 05:05 PM

and the filter has a "nut" built in - easy to remove...

It's a great combo, been running it for almost 2 years now(not the same oil and filter the entire time) :)

Anyone else catch this? That's pretty out of the norm for oil pressure.

I think he means it's higher by 10 to 15 PSI than it was before.
