Red face How hard on a scale?

How hard on a scale of say 1-10 would a noob with a Haynes Manuel and a little mechanical touch would it be to change a head gasket? Did a search and didn't reveal too much on the subject... thanks.

I say go for it...it would be a good learning experience....plus save you a ton of money from paying someone else to do it

opps... I was a little when posting. Umm do I have to take the timing chain off to get to it. I've got the slp dual roller, it looks like it could be in the way and boy would it save me some money. A local shop wanted 500 for parts and labor!

I'd go for doing it yourself. All you need are some sockets, new gasket of course, and a torque wrench. If you're going to pull one head, might as well pull both and do the lifters and check the pushrods as well, since the lifters are right there under the head.

go for it, a friend and I just did the head gaskets in a lincoln, it wasn't hard

Thats not to bad of a price, they mant 400 to change wires

It is nothing more than taking off some bolts, and putting them back on in the right order and to a specific torque (also in the right order). Just do your best to feel behind the head you are removing for any ground wires...GM put a few back there.
