key ignition problem!!!!!

key ignition problem!!!!! car wont stay on unless i hold the key in a certain position. when i turn the key to the on postion the gauges or nothing tuns on unless i move it a little past the on postion, i was wondering if anyone new what i might have to do. thanks alot
sounds like a lock cylinder problem from what you are telling me but if you have a vats key try this first, get your spare key or if you dont have a spare have another one cut and see if the same problem occurs, sometimes the chip goes bad or has a bad connection.
there are a lot of problems with the vats system but that is on getting it started it sounds like your problem is in the ignition switch i would replace the ignition switch if i were you
