Actually, for the 2000+ Torsens you don't need the additive (unless you get the "rusty screw" sound). The '98-'99 Auburns absolutely need the friction modifier to work properly. This is given one still has the stock diff installed, of course.

I just installed new axle bearing/seals in mine. I used 2 qts of RP oil and a rear end gskt. Total for all was about $60 . I do not know what they charge me for the oil, but it musta been free. LOL. I know the bearing and seals was about $45.

With the torsion no additive is needed. I put one in my truck and only used dyno oil for it and it is smooth as glass.

Damn... now I have to actually hit up a dealership for the slip additive? Bastards. That is too much effort for me. Looks like I'll be stopping on my lunch hour tomorrow.

That's not terrible. I just hope they have it on hand when I go. Am I just asking for limited slip additive for a '99 Camaro?

Mmk. I'll be getting the LSD additive soon. Do you put the additive in first and then fill it with the gear oil? I would assume the whole bottle of LSD additive should be in there, right?

im have to nicely disagree with you on one point 1999 was the first year of the Zexel-Torsen from factory........ also at that point the y2y option by slp changed from the Zexel-Torsen HD to the Aurburn Pro

"The old disc-type limited slip differential (Auburn) was replaced with a Zexel-Torsen torque sensing limited slip differential. The new differential requires the use of synthetic differential fluid because of its design. The slip-limiting uses metal-to-metal contact inside the case and thus requires the use of the more "slippery" synthetic lubricant." quote from http://tech.firebirdv6.com/general.html

I may be wrong, but I distinctly remember getting the factory brochure with the exclusive changes to the 2000s. The first thing mentioned was the change to the Zexel Torsen diff. Maybe you're calling it a '99 model year change because they were released in the fall of '99??
Yes, I know about the Auburn Pro, but that was only available from SLP on the SSes and Firehawks, as an option .
