I will probably switch to their Series 3000 5W-30 (this is one STOUT oil, which can handle blowby/washdown/dilution like NO other, perfect for cold, short trip winter driving) at the next change for the winter/early spring. If it gets REAL cold in the winter where you are I would stick with the Series 3000 or regular 5W-30 (like < 30 degrees f steadily, or frequently down to 0-10 degrees). If the temps are more moderate, you can use the 5W-40 with NO worries.

I know you don't have to change the oil every 3k like you do conventional oil but spending $50 on just oil for a change is a bit steep to me.
Would ya care to expand on the first part?

As for me, I'm on my second batch of Amsoil 5w40, run year round. This will be the first winter where it has seen decently cold weather (since I used to live in Florida), so I'll see how it does. I'm pretty **** about getting some heat in my oil even on short trips (I make short trips long on purpose when it is cold out). I'll be sending a sample of the Amsoil 5w40 in for analysis this week to see how it does...

I put in GC Saturday and it drove good for that day. I drove it Sunday and it felt a little slower and the ticking sound is ALOT louder. I won't use it again. I had RP in my Spec V and I liked it alot. Engine ran smoother and it had a bit more power. Also, with GC I had my oil psi drop below 40 and stay at 35. I ran M1 before the GC and didn't like the M1. I will do RP next time. I used it before and like it.

That's a pretty common complaint with the GC oil...my engine ran noisy as well. It had nothing to do with wear though, as the oil analysis results were still very good. I wanted to keep the engine a little quieter though for my sanity, so I went with the Amsoil. Royal Purple is also a very good oil.

German Castrol 0W-30 here. My car runs fine with it, quieter than M1 in both start up and operating temp.

I read on the forums a while ago that Mobil 1 no longer uses a fully synthetic stock after Katrina. By U.S. law, a highly refined dino oil can be classified as synthetic and since mobil's synthetic oil plant got heavily damaged in the storm, they're now using some group 3 stock. I'm just saying what I can remember from a post a month ago. Go online and do a search i'm sure you'll find it.

Meh...no thanks. I don't use Mobil 1 anyways, so it doesn't affect me. I wouldn't hold that against Mobil 1 though...

I would stick with Amsoil or RP. If your car doesn't get louder and noisier with GC or Mobil 1 then you are one of the lucky ones. They are both thin.
