Default Installing AC Compressor

Has anyone done it? My old unit is shot, and I have a replacement to put in. I had the old unit filled with refrigerant a few months back, but then it went hot again in about a month. I am pretty sure the compressor is bad, because it was leaking oil as well. Anyways, I want to put in the new compressor, but not sure I should tackle it myself. I have a decent set of tools and moderatley know my away around the engine. I obviously couldnt recharge the system myself, but just wonder if i should tackle the swap myself. Any thoughts? TIA

If you do not have a quality set of gauges, deep vaccum pump, oring assortment and an aircompressor your best bet is to take it somewhere. Do yourself a favor and buy brand new gm parts, reman or aftermarket and you are just wasting your time and money. You need the compressor to blow the lines , evap and condensor after you pur the flush to get everything clean. A lot of places will get pissy with you over warranty if you have a failure and a shop did not install the parts especially with a/c stuff.

Having replaced my own compressor in my 2002... Man, 01WS6/tamu hit it dead on. Always get a new GM compressor even though its 400.00 or you WILL regret it!
