Default Alternator Issues!

got a remanufactured unit from autozone installed it. doesnt work. checked all wiring everything is fine. eventually my battery completely died. i have done all that i could think of. coud i have a bad one? any ideas?

Did you have any issues with the little red wire (field/exciter wire) on the top-rear of the alternator? The one with a weatherpack connector... if that wire is broken/damaged/disconnected, the alternator will not charge properly.

Or there is a chance you just got a bad rebuild. I never trust rebuilts from the parts store chains, I've had too many bad ones myself.

Buddy of mine went through a couple parts store "rebuilt" ones, finally bought a new GM replacement.

I got a rebuilt one that died two days later, got a new GM one and had no worries (think its going out again, we will see)

i pulled it out the last time i changed it. so i added about a 6 inch longer wire on it. worked fine like that before. i am going to another parts store an have them check it for me tomorrow.
