Default Need new door for my Hawk

This just sucks! I've got an '01 hawk w/ 60K on the clock, great shape/well maintained, and garage kept. I bought it from a private sale several months ago and noticed the driver's side door sagging slightly when I bought it. No big deal...I thought I'd just have the bushings/pins replaced to have the issue fixed. I took the T/A in to the dealer yesterday to price getting it fixed, when I noticed a crack in the fiberglass on the inside of the door below the bottom door attaching mechanisms. To make a long story short, I was told that I'd need a new door, because this door can not be fixed due to where the crack is. The service manager began calling around to junk yards and found a "firebird" door for $450. Brand new from GM is $850 before paint, and installation. I haven't seen the junk yard door, but I am weary about putting it on my car. My car is beautiful and I don't mind paying a little more to get the new door done right.

My question is....are trans am doors the same as v6 birds? The junk yard door is off of a V6 and I don't know how long it's been on the car or if it's in great shape. I am hoping the V6 doors are the same as the T/A doors, except for the inside molding. I'm strongly leaning toward the new door. I know T/A doors have "Trans Am" in block letters on the bottom, where as Firehawk T/A doors have the same side molding, but only have a decal. Do you think GM still sells doors for the firehawks or if I can get a T/A door without the "Trans Am" block letters on the side (hence the V6 door). This dealer does good work. They didn't seem to even know what a Firehawk is??? Can someone steer me in the right direction to find a new door for my firehawk. Thanks.

I'm certain the door is the same part number and it comes without trim and emblems. They will most likely charge you extra for new molding and emblems as required after they paint the door to match your car and change over all the associated parts inside the door (labor intensive = $$$).

I'd personally find the used door myself (most likely including door glass and all still installed inside), verify it is not damaged in any way, have a paint shop I trust paint it, and then I'd install it myself. By the correct emblems and trim and stick them on afterward.

get a second opinion, the door is a composit material (fiberglass) you should find a shop that can repair it that is by reading your post only good luck

Thanks guys. Yes, I'd love to keep the original door and just have it fixed. The dealer said that it can't be fixed. I'm all about searching every available resource to find out if someone can fix it, before I replace the whole door.
