Default automatic lights not working

On my 00 Z28 I always keep the headlights **** in the far left auto position. The other morning I at 5:00 am, I start car up shift out of park and into reverse. Release the e-brake and my headlights don't come on. I had too manually turn them on. The little red flashing light on the center of the dash is blinking when I have car shut off. Does anyone know if there is a switch mounted on the e- brake that might have gone out. Any ideas on this problem? Thanks. My day time running lights are working fine.

Maybe the E-Brake wasn't pushed down enough to trigger the lights??? I'm sure some appreciate the auto-light deal but alot of people, including myself, defeat that feature so the can turn the lights on when they want them on.
