I ended up replacing both ac idler pulley's with aluminum ones from AD. Also put on a new belt. Sound went away and no more issue then as I'm standing there I see dexcool on the garage floor. Oh crap! As I look closer and closer I can tell it is coming from behind the main pulley running the water pump. So, my day went from 30 minute belt/pulley change to about 3 hour water pump change.

Tried this out today since I was going to change out my belts anyways. Did them all except for the A/C idler. I let the car idle for a bit after, and it was instantly noticeable that it was a bit quieter. I can hear more valvetrain running, but that sounds alot better than pulley squeak.

Only problem I noticed was a bit of excess grease on the water pump pulley. I used some Valvoline Durablend grease. It looks like its dark blue in color, and is rated for up to 400*. I wiped the pulley/s down pretty good, so I'm wondering if this particular grease isn't good enough.

What kind/brand of grease did you use?
It's been over a week, and yet I still get a bit of grease spray from the tensioner pulley on the water pump.

Is my pulley making the noise that I'm hearing? It's like a hissing/whistling noise when under 2k rpm.

I've had two LS1's, both made the same noise, sounds like a bird chirping.

Yeah you could say that it sounds like that. Is it the pulley from this thread?

3 years later and this thread is still useful, thanks for the great info!

I noticed some corrosion on my pulley after investigating where the squeaking was coming from. I have temporarily sprayed it with some garage lube but once this AZ heat starts to go away I will be greasing

I'm in the same boat. I cannot get that T50 bolt off and its the last pulley I need to replace. Any help on how to get it off without stripping it would be amazing.

I do this same thing on my snowmobile wheel bearings in the skid. I would suggest a good high temp wheel bearing grease for these.

Well I ended up trashing the heads on the T50 screw. The dealership said I can't order the bolt by itself, I need to order the a/c idler pulley to get it. Is this correct?

Also, whats the thread specs and length for this bolt? I think I'd rather get something that works better from McMaster-Carr

There is no front or back. I'd take it back off and see that it spins in your hand. Hold the center and turn. Then re install.
