Default Volt gauge acting up

Alright, I have a red top battery brand new and a new altenator (1 month old). I bought a tester to check on top of the battery when the car is running and it shows about 13 volt-13.5 on the tester. The car gauge reads around 10-11 volts. When I use to give it gas the meter would move and now it doesn't. Also, when I first start up the car the meter reads 13 volts. After some driving it drops to around 10-11. What is the problem?

Thanks

Get the alternator tested. Sounds like the voltage regulator is bad. Did you make sure the connection at the top of the alternator is solid?

when we dropped the altenator it snapped the wire so we installed a butt splice and it seemed to work. This was about 2 months ago, it just started acting up now. Is there a certain size wire to use? Also how can I check voltage on altenator, it is just a pain in the butt to get under the car and check it while it is running. Any fuse block? etc etc

Thanks

If you have an advanced auto near you they'll test the alternator I believe for free. Might want to get your battery tested also.

Where did you get the alternator? If you got it from and Autozone, advance....etc it might be it crapping out on you already. If you do a search on here just about everyone that has bought an alternator at a local parts store has had very very bad luck with them and it seems most people have ended up paying the extra money and getting another GM one. I'll be replacing mine soon with a GM unit( voltage regulator starting to crap out)
