Ps pumping with no fluid

Ps pumping with no fluid wellllll long story short i have a hole in my power steering return line, needless to say the system will not hold fluid. My question is will the ps pump get messed up if it is not pumping any fluid????? Ive allready ordered the line from gm and ive been driving w/o power steering for about a week (220 miles) thanks
