2nd gen heater core HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2nd gen heater core HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ok well like the title says, I need help. I have removed everything from the firewall including the air box and blower....kinda messed the air box up in the process beyond repair.....but now i am inside the car trying to get the heater case out. Do I really have to remove the dash to pull that out???? Im getting pretty dang frustrated doing this and just want to get a freakin saw out! Anyone ever done this?

Yes - and yes, you have to remove the lower dash. Start with the glovebox door, then remove the rest of the lower dash pieces. I think the driver's side is separate from the radio/hvac/glovebox side. There is also a brace that runs the width of the lower dash area that you'll see after you get the dash out of the way. I'm pretty sure you have to remove all the air ducting pipes as well. Be sure and mark the pipes so you remember which way they go back in. You may have to pull out some of the passenger side carpeting and kick panel. (in case you haven't noticed, it ain't a fun job...
)
You didn't say if you have a Bird or Camaro. I'm going off memory from my 1979 Z, and some of the mounting connections may vary from year to year. I had to change my HC out in 1989/90, so it's been a while.

oh yea....sorry, it a 1980 Trans Am. I know its not a fun job and since the car is an A/C car its even worse. Thanks for the info.....i guess i'll start pulling it apart today.

Most of the brackets and dash support components should be the same then. Just take your time and put the small parts in labeled bags so you don't forget where they go. Also, take digital pics! I didn't have that option back then and it certainly would have helped.
