If it's a M6 think that's normal? If A4 it's too high.

Is the throttle body dirty??? The IAC valve may be compensating? Just a thought

vacuum leak from a dry rotten line?

check all your throttle body hoses.

Along the same lines what is the norm idle on an A4 LS1?
Mines seems to hover around 500-550...too low i think?

now its running even more funky. when i start it revs a little high for a sec then drops to 750ish after i drive anywhere it stays at about 1000 -1050. if i drive for a while and stop at a light sometimes it will stay at like 1200-1300 for like 5 sec then drop to 1k. i dont get it the lines seem to be ok but has anyone else had something just like this happen to them? the only time it would ever idle high before was after a 2-4 hr drive and it would stay at around 1200 until i shut it off(gas) so i never tested to see if it would lower after a while

I had this problem when i changed my throttle body because air was leaking past the blade...and i had a huge vacuum leak.

if you're CERTAIN that it isn't a vacuum leak then your IAC might be acting up.

unplug the IAC and take it for a spin and see what happens.

well today i was just checking the fluids and toping off the coolant, and i noticed that i was a little low on coolant so i pops my radiator cap and toped it off that way, waited for the thermo to pop and and it was full. i took the car for a burn(where it would normally idle high after) and the car came back down to idle. i cant see thiat fixing it, but it just might have. ill get back you you guys on it monday(going to MEPS) and i checked the hoses to the TB everything looked fine. i checked other hoses and everything looks good.

are you guys kidding me? my car idles a hair below 1000.

also, the idle fluctuates barely. like the tach floats around just below 1000, it never stays solid like when the car was stock. isn't it supposed to? i haven't found any vacuum leaks anywhere and there aren't any exhaust leaks. what is causing that floaty idle? is something dirty or cracked or something?

my buddy has the same setup as i do but in a 6speed and when he fires it up it idles immediately without floating around. do 6 speeds just idle better than autos?

don't trust your stock tach

hooked up to a computer, mine shows to idle at 825-875, while my tach shows 1000 and just a hair under 1000 if the AC is on.

my M6 idles at 900 when it is nice and warmed up. After i drive it for a few hours straight it will idle maybe around 1000. Sometimes it could hold at 1200 after driving for a real long time but when i start it and let it cool off it will be back at 900 so i think thats normal
