'99 Z28 - Trip Odometer Resetting
'99 Z28 M6 - roughly 110K miles. today i noticed that the trip odometer resets itself to 0.0 each time the car is turned off and restarted. in the past, it has not automatically reset itself ..... it usually turns over at 999 miles.
this isn't a problem as i don't keep track of miles via the trip odometer.
but is this a sign of a larger problem with either the dash guage assembly or a transmission module ??????
thanks
bill

I have a 99z with 73000 miles and it is a six speed. Sometimes it does this. Not very often. I have had no other problems other than a bad TPS sensor and misadjusted throttle stop.

My car has done this twice..Everytime i would start it the trip would reset, and all my guages would spike up....the 2 times that it has done it about 3 weeks later my battery went dead with a shorted cell. I know the battery acts as a shock absorber in the electrical system..absorbing voltage spikes and what not...so i'm assuming that when it started shorting out my guages were spiking up because of small voltage spikes..

'99's do this if the battery terminal connections are bad/loose, or just low voltage. I'd have the battery load tested. There's a TSB on this to replace the gauge cluster - but good battery voltage should take care of it.

My '99 Trans Am did this right out of the factory, it reset the first night I had it home the car had about 100 miles on it. It would usually do it when the temperature got below freezing.
