Default Screeching sound when pulling off in first

For about a month I have been receiving a screeching sound when pulling off in first gear in my 02 TA. Initially, I thought it was the rear calipers not releasing but several individuals stated the brakes look fine. Now I'm starting to wonder if this sound is coming from the rear end. Its only intermittent coming out of first and primarily with normal driving. Does anyone have any ideas?

Did they look at the parking brake too? And are you sure it's in the rear and not a belt?

I forgot all about the parking brake, it is very comparable to the parking brake being left up. When I pull off the rear tires, how do I examine the parking brake?

You have to take the caliper and rotor off. Then the parking brake will be visable, looks like the old drum brakes. I would probably look to see if the shoes contact the inner drum and seize a bit, I would think rust marks or other wear marks (some help on that one), worn shoes, or maybe the shoes just need a bit of adjustment. The adjuster is similar to the old drum brakes. I'm not sure how to check the release of the shoes though, you might be able to actuate the parking brake to see how much, if at all, the shoes move. That's my idea, hope it helps a bit.

Don't hold me to it but I'm 99% sure its your throwout bearing.

Its a screaching rattle sound right?

There's no rattling sound to it. I just replaced the bearing when I changed the clutch about 6 months ago. Could they go bad that fast?

I'm sure its possible for them to go out that fast. I'm not saying yours is toast though.

Its hard to say now that I know your TO bearing is fairly new.

Does it sound like squeaky brakes when coming to a stop?

coming to a stop there is no noise at all. I just finished lifting the car up and will inspect the parking brake. Hopefully, that will be the problem. I acutally changed the brakes about 3 weeks before the noise started occuring. I will keep you posted and thanks for everyones help who chimed in.

Well, I believe I found the problem. My driver side rear caliper have way to much play. So much that the rotor moves fairly freely and I confirmed that the sound was coming from there. I did another search on calipers and found this post. This could very well be the problem.

If the wheel is off, the rotor will move freely. Now, the caliper could be loose, and needing a shim. Did you notice one when you re-did the brakes?

My car makes the same noise once in a while when its been sitting for a day or so, but its an A4 and the brakes are brand new. I'm going to check the parking brake.
