Default Help on speedometer reading...

My car seems to be running slower than what the speedometer reads. I changed the cluster a year ago but it's acting up again. Any ideas what could be the problem? Could it be the Vehicle Speed Sensor? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you have any mods?

My only mods are Lid, smooth bellow, and a LM1. I don't know if this matters but my rim size are 19x8.5 all around. When I look at my speedometer reading 70, it really feels like I'm going only 50 or 55. By the way, my car is a 1998 Z28 A4.

Yup - That matters ... a whole lot.

Go find one of those electronic speed limit signs that tell you how fast you are going. Drive by it and see how far off your speedometer is.

Rim size does matter, only if the total rim + tire diameter is different than stock.

Yeah tire size makes a big difference, kinda like when people take a truck and replace the stock tires with 38s or whatever

I did that tire calculator on the wheels and tires thread and I compared the stock tire to the new tire. It said that I am going 3.2% too fast which is about 2mph over. But my speedometer readings are really off (I think it is reading 10mph faster). I had the same problem a year ago and I took it to the dealership to have it check, they said that my cluster is the problem, so I had to replace it, which cost me $250. Well, I guess I'll just have the dealership check it and hope that it isn't the cluster again.
