Default Brake master cylinder sensor?

What does the sensor do on the side of the brake master cylinder?

Pressure sensor maybe?

It tells you if the brake fluid is low.

I thought that too but mine has been unplugged and it hasn't told me ****. lol It just randomly kicks my low trac light on and off sitten at stop lights being unplugged. I just noticed this today.
