A/c tensioner pully bolt....
I pulled the a/c tensioner pully, now for some reason the bolt wont go back in as if it was stripped. It wont even go all the way back in. The bolt itself is not stripped. but there are tiny bits of metal (looks like threads). Anybody have any idea what the problem could be. Somebody tell I dont have to retap.
Thanks

Sounds like the threads got pulled. Basically the female threads of the hole corroded onto the male threads of the bolts and came out when you removed the bolt. Antiseize prevents this, but the factory doesn't seem to like the stuff. Probably can't retap as there is no metal to tap into. Best to replace the tensioner. You could try maybe tapping to the next size up, engish or metric, if the pulley hole allows use of a larger bolt... or try that stuff permatex makes for thread repair. I've never tried it personally:

I dont think I lost too many threads either I'll try to retap with an M8. You said you used a longer bolt? Do you remember what length bolt that was. I was also wanting to stay with the stock size. If all else fails then M10.
I've never tapped before seems pretty straight foward on the process, but M8 is the size tap I get correct? I mean, that is what it will say on the package (M8).
Thank for the reply. The squeaking is killing me. This will be my Thanksgiving project.
