Default Question about Clockspring

This maybe a dumb question, But why does the clockspring need to be replaced after an airbag deployment?

I found an article which claims that the clockspring only needs to be inspected.

On my car, which had deployed airbags, the clockspring was bad. I'm guessing this is pretty common, considering the amount of force generated by a deploying airbag and a body running into the same space.

The wiring will get very hot and sometimes the insulation will melt. It doesn't always have to be replaced but it is a good idea.
