You think that was bad? I did it the hard way, aka according to the book. Took out the whole motor and lift assembly, let me tell you doing it that way was a royal pain. Took all afternoon, evening, and morning next day to get one side done. At least only the driver side needed done...
Of course I found the shoebox guide AFTER I did my motor the hard way....

yeah the lock thing was a pain too, but not much. i was drilling the wrong direction for about 5 tries before i realized the hole that is in that one 'valley' looking thing was covered up by a wire route, so i never saw it. once i pulled the wires out of the way the diagrams made more sense, but this was about 2 hours into it......

swapping the motors wasnt bad, but it wasnt as easy as i thought it would be. After making a couple unnecesarry holes, i got hold of a tiny mirror to get a general idea of where the rivets were. To find each rivet, i could drill a pilot hole in that general area, take a peek inside, and see if i need to drill closer to the rivet. I then made a larger hole, to get full access to the rivet, then got a smaller bit to drill out the rivet. This was my first swap i did, i think i can do it much quicker the next time around.

You might need some extra wire - and you won't need the extra fuse but from a wiring aspect its the same.
I've had the door panels off more times than I can count - I can have it off or on in about 2 minutes - but that little door lock continues to screw me every time.

Ok, I did this today...passenger side. The shbox site was a helluva help! Because I know that more than likely I will be doing this again, I wrote down the "coordinates" of the rivets.
Looking at the door (with the panel off, of course), you will see 4 large rivets. The place to drill to expose the motor rivets are:
1) From the top left one, move 1 3/8" to the left, and then 1" up.
2) From the bottom left rivet, move 2 1/4" to the left, and 1 1/2" up.
3) From the bottom left rivet, move left 1"...it's right at the top edge of that hole.
I actually got the tape out and measured this out. Hope it helps!

It's a crap shoot no matter what. You could just as easily go through all that work and have one of the new ones pucker out in a couple months.
