Bad vibration at highway speeds
I don't know how severe your vibration is but every Fbody I've had it seems like if you have your seat adjusted to a certain spot you'll get a vibration after a certain speed. I get it on mine now if it's adjusted a certain way. Try moving your seat a little, It seems weird but if nothing else has worked it couldn't hurt to try.
I was ready to sell my 96RS until I figured it out by just happening to decide to adjust my seat going down the highway.

if you get any movement after bolting the u-joint down tight, then you need to replace the rear yoke. usually u get this after you drive with a bad shaft for a long time or break a shaft and it slings around loose in the yoke
any idea on how much replacing rear yolks cost?
Bringing back an old one ....
I have a vibration issue... GTO with a T56... I just put in a one peice DS.. It didn't vibrate at first but know around 90 I get a vibration.. Not horible.. So I got under the car and was going to try the 180 flip, and seen a line around the DS from a bolt that I cut down(as in the instructions).. Guess I didn't cut it down enough.. I plan on finishing the job this weekend... My ?? is do you think I need to rebalance the DS as you cant even feel the cut in the DS but can see it..
Also I can push up on the DS at the back of the trnny and feel it move a little but that is not visable at all.. Should I worry about that bushing??

I just got the vibration today, really bad, and when i looked in the rearview, i saw half of my driveshaft flying in the air at 70mph. i got it towed home and it looks like one of the straps on the yoke either came loose or broke off. what do i do now?
well you start with new parts.lol be sure you replace that yoke on the rear end as the shaft slinging out like that most likely messed up the ears that hold the rear ujoint in place.
I found a used slp aluminum driveshaft for 175 shipped, but who sells yokes, i cant find anything on that. It turns out that one strap came loose while driving and the torque arm cut the shaft in half. the other strap is still on tight and holding the u joint cup. There are dings on the corners of the yoke and i took the rear cover off and the gears still seem to be in working order, but i'm skeptical of that.
No, this was completely my fault. I did a gear change 2 weeks ago and didn't loctite the strap bolts. The bolts on the missing strap are still there, but one of them is loose, the other 3 are still tight. I did torque them all down though.
if the rear didnt bind up i wouldnt worry too much about the rear end gears, you can either find a bone yard yoke or get one from any place that specializes in driveline/rear end parts.
just to bring up and old issue,
replaced my driveshaft with an aluminum one, vibration gone for the most part. found out that i had bent the slip yolk on my original drive shaft.
driveline shop also said that my rear yolk could be worn and would need to be replaced soon, and i was wondering if this was a job i could take on myself, or do i need some special tools etc?
anyone?

you dont need anything special, just a 1"1/8 socket i believe it is. and dont overtighten the nut when you put it back together. you want it tight up agaist the crush sleeve without overtighting it.
