Default High Pitch Sound from Engine

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TF5s0UFioM

My T/A has 49,000 miles. I thought it was normal, but for 20,000+ miles I have had this high-pitch sound coming from the the front of the engine. Again, it seemed to be normal until I happened to hear another F-body today and it didn't exhibit a similar whine.

Anyone else's ever have a sound like this?

Try taking the Belts off of it and starting it and see if it still makes the noise, It could be one of the belt driven acc. making the noise.

+1 on that...Just don't run it too long or of course, you will over heat.

I bet it's either the infamous idler pulley or the water pump.

thanks guys. removed both belts, started it up, and no more noise. installed just the A/C belt and noise came back. time to replace the tensioner and/or idler pulleys.

I had the same noise. Turned out to be the idler on the A/C belt.
Repacked it and noise was gone.

Good luck
