Default hmmm. how do i connect this two?

car is 95 trans am convertible with lt1.
it is a pipe with coolant that goes from the bottom part of the engine to the firewall and through it. it fall apart right after where there is a metal ring on it. The part that fell apart consists of two plastic pieces. I have no idea how to connect it so it stays together. One fits inside another maybe by 2mm and gluing them together just doesn’t seem right. Here are the pictures. Please help me with this. The car is standing like that for a month already. Also what purpose does this little spring and valve serve and which way is that one supposed to fit? Thanks in advance!

If it's what I am thinking it's ine way check valve. Whe I replaced it on my car a couple of years ago it is serviced as part of the heater hose pipe assembly. It is compromised of all of the hoses to both the core and the engine and the aluminum hardlines on the framerail.
