IP Dimmer fuse keeps blowing
the little 5 amp fuse for the IP Dimmer (the thing that lets you see your gauges at night) keeps blowing; I went thru a pack of 5 in a 17 minute drive. Would it be ok to get a higher-amp fuse, or is there some other problem that needs adjusting?
If the standard original fuse is 5A then don't put a higher amp fuse in. Can be a bad idea, you could cause even more problems upping the fuse. I'd look and see why it is blowing. Do you have any aftermarket stuff hooked up at all?
I'll just throw this out there: remove the console and check the wires that go to the bulb that lights up the shifter display (if you have an Automatic). I just had to change that bulb and I was looking at it thinking that it would be easy to get the wires to it pinched by the shift linkage. It's worth a shot. You could also check behind the stereo. Maybe the dimmer **** has some sort of short in it? Hopefully it's not something behind the dash. Good luck, let us know if when you find the short.

I am having the same problem as this guy did...the IP Dimmer fuse blows whenever I put another one in. I have a 99 M6 Camaro and I also have an 01 at the house if I need to switch parts around to figure out the problem. My brother says it's a short-to-ground. What do you guys suggest doing first???
I looked a lot of similar posts on this issue but no clear idea of what caused it?
Any chance you managed to resolve this issue with the 5amp fuse blowing for the IP Dimmer? I have the same issue on my 94 trans am, It seems to be a fairly common problem even with fully stock cars so I don't see any mods being relevant and none of mine were electrical anyway.

No, I haven't, that would have been the obvious place to start. Nothing changed from when it was working to when it stopped, and there is no obvious reason to me of why it did. But without fail, it blows the fuse if you replace it. I looked around for wires that might be worn/burnt/poorly grounded/touching but I couldn't find anything.
Did you ever figure out what the problem was?
