Engine Cleaning:While assembled? Options Ok, since I have never really pulled a motor out without having it done we picked up a used one and just want to clean it up. Its a LS1 block and its fairly clean just some grease. Any tricks? The only thing I could think of was a whole lot of Brake Cleaner. Also for a regular iron sbc that is caked with grease, how can we go about doing that one?

Use straight gasoline. Its the cheapest and works by far the best. I use a spraygun with a siphon port and blast gas on with the air hose. This is the method i use to clean my motors before paint, that and a wire brush for the tough stuff.
