umm... I replaced the rack/pinion with a new one from autozone. there were 2 different ones to choose from. a soft and a firm. i went with the firm. had some fitment issues w/ the power steering lines. now the steering will start stiff go soft go stiff and then go soft again. any one know why this is happening? and what the difference is between the soft and the firm?

The alignment of the rack is off on the car. I can make 1 full rotation to the right and 1.5 rotations to the left. I am wondering if someone could see how many rotations I am supposed to be getting each way. Thanks!
Put it on stands in the front, take the power steering cap off, and just turn the wheel back and forth. That's the easiest way to get the air out. We had a few humvee's with the problem in Iraq and our genius
mechanics couldn't figure out how to fix it.
I'm not saying that will fix YOUR problem. It just sounds like the problem we had, so it's worth trying.
