Default lights flicker

hey guys, just seeing if anyone else has this or noticed it on their cars. for the past month or so, when driving at night, I notice my headlights kind of flickering, not like full on strobe effect or anything, but definatly noticeable and the dash lights flicker with them( very faint dimming, almost not noticeable). curious as to what you guys think it may be. I'm guessing the alternator or something. thanks in advance!

Replace the alternator, the regulator is going bad. If you only want to do it once use nothing less than a genuine gm alternator.

I have the exact same problem!!! I took the car to autozone and they checked the battery, starter, and alternator with all three checking out fine. I have yet to try anything else. Someone please help.

My car does the same thing, but only when the car is running. If I turn the lights on while the car is off, they don't dim. The alternator could probably use replacement. My voltages are fine though.

Its the Alternator that is going bad. My lights were flickering for over a year like that and it checked fine as well when I had it checked at the auto parts store but when I replaced it.. the flickering went away. Its the alternator and having an auto parts store check it doesn't mean squat because the flickering is soo quick it doesn't show up on their equipment.

You mean from the dealer? I'm not sure about that. AZ by my house has 2 choices, a new (170) & a rebuilt (145). I believe both have the same limited lifetime warranty. I'm picking up the rebuilt on the way home today.

I was going to change both belts to Gatorback this weekend anyway.....so nice timing for mine to crap out.

I believe the voltage regulator is built into the alternator on LS1 F-bodies.

FYI...did it tonight. Took me about 2.5 hours alone to change the alternator & both belts. That includes getting the car on & off the jacks.

The wires cannot be disconnected until you have all the bolts out. It helped me to let it rest on the sway bar after unbolting it.
