3rd gear problems

I just purchased a 02 SS with only 12k miles last week and I am having problems with 3rd gear. Sometimes when I shift to 3rd gear it feels like its in gear but then it will grind and pop out of gear. All of the other gears seem fine. Any ideas what this could be?

Is it when you beat on it or when you drive it normal? It could most likely be a synchro if its all the time.

I had a similar issue with a bad syncro, which got worse when it was cold.

If you have a Hurst or other aftermarket shifter with positive stops, it could be an adjustment issue. If you have the stops, you may just have to back them out a bit. The stick is square on those stops when its in the 3rd and 4th gear position.

I had the same issue. It was a bent shift fork.

It's mostly with normal driving. If it is a bad synchro or shift fork how much am I looking at to get it repaired? Any ideas?
