My damn window has been having the same problem. When it comes time to go back up, it goes about half way, stops, and then i have to wait about a minute, press the button and then it finally goes all the way up!

Sometimes they give you signs that they are going out u know it gets stuck then you wait then you can roll it up little by little other times it just goes out.

Your motor is accumulating corrosion......go back and read post #20 and do the entire process including the Seafoam or WD-40. Should fix it.

window motors should last forever actually, corrosion build up is the killer. Even after one stops completely it just needs to be cleaned out to work again.

99% of the time this is the problem. Of course some do just fail from a short or they get burned out inside.

Ok, got one for $54, but it turns out my motor is fine. We took it out and tested it, and it turned with no problem. Then we hooked it up to the switch without mounting it back in the door, thinking it was maybe the switch that was the problem -- and it worked fine then too. So maybe one of the gears that it rides up against was blocking it? We're gonna try and figure it out tomorrow morning..

I was able to pull the window up and I just have it blocked with some cardboard right now to keep it from falling back down, since the motor isn't there.

Could be, we were thinking the actual connector to the motor was loose. It didn't feel loose when we took it off, but it could have been.

Your motor is fine. If the motor was going bad, it would have given you a warning or laws of probability would have made it more likely to die on you in some position between open and closed.

See post #12. There is internal switching that can go bad inside the motor. In order to expose this particular issue, you will need the weight of the window on the motor. So, if the internal switching is is your problem, it is expected that the motor would turn freely when you remove it from the physical load. (My first bad motor behaved in the same way yours is now - good with the load off - dead with the load on.

That being said, I have had my motor wires loose before, which caused the thing to stop working. (After my first new motor install.)

Either way, life is too short to keep messing with our doors. If your motor isn't dead already, it will be eventually and you'll have to replace it then. If your new motor has a lifetime warranty, you'll have better $$$ protection if it ever goes south again. If I were you, I'd just put the new one in while you have everything apart and spend all of your saved time out by the Bay.
