Cheap Gas Caps

Can someone please tell me if cheap aftermarket gas caps such as those from Autozone lack a sufficient amount of quality to be able to release compression from the gas tank, causing the P0442/0440 (small emissions evap leak) codes?

Ive been using the locking gas cap that I bought from autozone for about 3 years now and have never had an issue with it.It is possible though that you just got a bad cap.If you still have your stock cap or could borrow one from somebody try that and see if the code still pops up.

You did look for the sealing ring on the new cap, right?? They have forgotten them before, and they'll never seal correctly. $.02
