Default Rear hatch shock number

Sorry, I have done searches like crazy, but was wondering if anyone could just let me know of the GM part numbers. Or, when I go to AutoZone, what do I ask for? Thanks.

Ask for the rear hatch strut. It doesn't matter if you're the guy who invented the damn thing and know what it's called those idiots aren't going to know what the hell you're talking about. May need to walk them out to the car and point your finger to it.

Yes, but don't they come in different rates that will open the hatch faster or slower? Which do I make sure and get?

No they don't. I know this because I own a 2001 Z28 and the hatch pops right open. I also own a 2002 SS and the hatch feels a little heavy I guess due to the heavier spoiler on the SS. The struts have the same numbers between the two cars. You might be able to find one thats the same size and retrofit it, thats just a guess.

thats what i was thinking because my hatch feels heavy on my Z and i was wondering if the struts which i am sure have not been replaced are getting wore out. i figure try and find some hood struts that are close to the same length with the same size openings for the ends but i could be shooting in the dark.

trans am hatch struts are different from the formula/v6 ones due to the ta hatch being much heavier
