Default fuel pump issue? maybe?

so my fuel pump was whining extremely loud after about a minute after start up and someone suggested changing the fuel filter. so i did and it did the trick. cranked it up and drove it around town or about 20 or 30 minutes and it was still quiet.

well today i had to drive it to work and i drive about 20 miles on the interstate. when i got off the exit ramp i noticed it whining again, but not quite as loud as before. it did it again on the way home. i stopped for 5 mins at a gas station and cranked it back up and no whine. drove it home and no whine. i went to the gym and back later and still no whine.

my question is, does interstate driving make the pump whine for some reason?

What year car? How many miles? Original fuel pump?

I had similar noise after 15 minutes of city driving in mine - 96k miles. I bought a new pump a few months ago but have not heard the whining noise come back and have not installed the pump yet.

99z28, 148k, and yea im sure its the original pump. i really hope its not going out, because that has got to be a pain in the *** to replace unless you want to cut the body up. =(

my stock one was always quiet. It will probably go out eventually. If it does just by a Racetronix kit its only a little over $200.

sounds like the plastic fan inside the pump has a slight crack in it and is about to go out!

Cutting an access panel is the best thing you can do! I was very leary of but went ahead and did it on my SS. Once the carpet is back in place you are the only one who knows its done. If you do it carefully and with the right stuff it will save you a major headache. I have some pics if you want them.

I believe cutting the access panel is really the only way to go on our cars. It will cut down the time by about 75%.

Just look at some pics and do it. Just don't wait until it dies all the way, it will suck pushing the Camaro.

The ones I have seen were done with a hinge. So it was like a trap door.

But, I have no idea where to get the stuff for this.

you can cut it just enough to make it hinge itself and then push it back down and silicone it. do however you like but that is how I did it. a metal cutting wheel on a dremel is the best to use. when you are cutting you have to be very careful and no cut too deep since your wiring harness is just under the metal. these are all I have. the others were lost on my old computer when it crashed.
