Default Odd A/C Troubles

A/C stopped working last weekend, i had just drove the vehicle with a/c the previous weekend and all was fine that i could tell.

Doesn't seem as though compressor is kicking on at all. the fuses in the vehicle for HVAC and a/c are fine as are both relays under the hood. Even switched them with other relays to ensure they were working. the fans dont come on either when the A.c is turned on like they normally do.

When I have someone turn the a/c on and I am looking under the hood it doesn't sound as though compressor is getting power. The plug on the compressor is tight and it hasnt rained or anything to get water in the connection.

I don't think there is a leak anywhere as there is no oily build up anywhere and i pressing on the schraeder valve and system seemed as though it had good pressure for the brief second i had it pressed in.

Is there a low pressure switch on the compressor that wont allow it to turn on w/o proper pressure?

Friday Im going to get some gauges put on it and pull a vacuum on it and see if its just low.

Is there anything else electrical im missing?

The low pressure switch is more or less in the PCM. You could try to directly engage the compressor clutch to see if the problem is a sensor or with the AC system.

The low pressure switch is mounted in the line, the PCM will see the low pressure and not allow the A/C clutch to kick on, you are probably just low on refrigerant. You need some manifold gauges to check it.

See what the "static" pressure is, sounds like you still have some refrigerant pressure in the system - in which case you won't have to vacuum it, just add. Might be a very small leak, you can get 134a with a dye in it to help detect any leaks.

I hope its just low on coolant and a top off will solve the problems

Guess we will find out tomorrow.

There is always a leak if the refrigirant is low. It had to go some where.
