Default Throwing belt problems Help please.

I have the pro street 32 ford with the LS7 ZO6 motor. I have taken it to the track several times. And everytime I end up shredding the belt. I have all the stock pulleys & tensioner. The only thing I have done is loose the power steering pump & install a shorter belt. When this happens The water pump pulley has melted rubber on it. I have to scrape it off before I can install a new belt. I have tried two different brands of belts. poly cog & gatorback. Not sure if there is a better belt out there. I heard Ketech or ASP makes a tensioner that may stop this problem. What do you guys think? HELP PLEASE!!!!!!

Just taking a stab at it. it sounds like maybe the water pump has more resistance than the other pulleys (since that is the one with rubber on it in the end). does the belt go straight from the crank to the wp? Might just be the torque of the engine if it is directly pulling on the wp. you might could put an idler where the power steering used to be. You would know then. Surely someone else has deleted the ps pump. Good luck.

Well I ordered the Katech tensioner. I will see if that fixes the problem. If not I am getting a deep groove idler pulley also.
