I'm thinking about using AMSOil in my WS6. Can anyone share the wealth of knowledge about the motor oil and what weight i should run?

Amsoil is great stuff!! I have been running it in everything I own for years...Harley, snowmobile,boat.....I would run 5w-30. With a good quality filter like napa. Also you can run it alot longer between oil changes than conventional motor oil. If I'm racing my car alot I change it every 5k. Every other car I own I go between 8-10k.

Default oil

Not sure I would change from royal to amsoil. I did this in 2 vehicles a mustang and a new GMC with a 5.3. Both vehicles started using over a quart of oil at 3500 miles. Amsoil has a 12 month or 25,000 mile oil change interval, just change the filter every 12,000. I was adding1 qt at 3500 and another at 7000.. Another quart at or around 10,000 and the quart at the 12000 with the filter and so on. I was puting about 7 qts of oil in a year over the reg amount for a total of19 qts in a year. At 7.00 a qt that was 130.00. I should have stuck with the royal. Oh and they said it would increase my fuel mileage. I lost 2 miles per gal. I changed my oil every 6000 with the royal for a total of 24 qts. I felt better with the royal and had no early morning start uP noise. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've been using AMSOIL for years, and switched my 1990 Silverado with a 5.7L over from Royal Purple to AMSOIL with no issues.

I've also ran Mobil 1 in the past years, and switched those vehicles over to AMSOIL with no consumption issues.

My 2003 Chevy Silverado has a 5.3L and I ran the AMSOIL 5W-30 for 19-months and 23,000-miles before the oil analysis report said it was time to change the oil. I never had to add any oil in the 23,000-miles, it was still running between the add and full mark at the oil change. I now have the new 0W-30 AMSOIL in the truck.

My wifes car is a 2003 Pontiac GrandPrix with a 3.8L. We ran her car 26,000-miles in 16-month before the oil sample report said the oil was getting low on TBN and it should be changed. I added a quart of oil every 8,000-miles which was less than conventional oil at a quart every 3,000-miles. Mobil 1 was a quart every 4 to 5,000-miles. The oil sample report also showed signs of a coolant leak. I pulled the intake and the gaskets were cracked. The $20.00 oil sample saved my wifes engine.

I have a large number of customers with the GM 3.8L engines and 3,000-miles on a quart of conventional oil seems to be the norm. With AMSOIL several are running like my wifes car, around 8,000 to 12,000-miles per quart. None of which are consumption issues.

Thanks, John
