A funny noise at at start up

A funny noise at at start up Whenever i start my car hot or cold there is like the sound of an electronic pump or fan and i cant tell where its coming from or if it might be a problem or if this is a common problem. my car is a 99 ls1 camaro 86K miles any ideas let me know....
well, the fuel pump primes itself and sounds like that, but you can distinctly hear it comes from the rear of the car underneath.
Also, it could be the sound of the air pump, which is located behind and below the drivers side headlight, in the bumber. Mine made noise fpor a little while once, then I never heard it again.
