Default More problems.

Well, I just decided to start modding my car, and last night my car started cutting out. When ever I first start my car, I put my car in drive and slowly start to go and it cuts out. I then pressed on the gas harder and it all of a suddon, stabs to a high rpm. No climb, it was just there out of no where and we took off from about 15 spinning the tires.

I just seafoamed my car a few days ago, and it is still mixed with the gas.

I just changed the oil today(oil had seafoam) and changed it with royal purple 10w30. I noticed a very strong smell after changing to this oil, even on the first start up with the oil. Maby the car is burning a little oil and this oil smells funky buring?????

Anothing thing, the car only cuts out for a little bit on about 2 out of 3 start ups. A few times it has been fine.

Any tips???????? I want to get this car running good so I can start modding before my school starts in January. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED!!!

Lets throw these guys in here to lighten the mood...

What mods does your car have currently and has it been tuned for those mods?

When did this happen? Was it doing this before you installed the parts in your sig?

No, no. These parts have been installed for a little over a year now.

When I said I was going to start modding my car I meant the heads and cam packages that I have been wanting.

All of this happend in the past 2 days, mods have all been on the car for a while with no problems. Seafoam is still in the gas, and the gas is premium.

Now these are two different problems!!! The cutting out started before the oil change, and continued after it. The smell only started after.

+1 on the fuel filter.

The seafoam in the tank might have loosened up a bunch of crap in your tank/lines and clogged the filter, starving the engine of fuel.

No I havent changed the fuel filter since I got the car last year.

I left the seafoam in there for about 50 miles. Way less than recomended.

Check you MAF sensor also. You may need to take it off and just clean the wires on it. Its just weird that it happens sometimes and others it doesn't.

Oh use brake cleaner on the wires. They are very brittle so be careful with them.

Don't use brake cleaner on your MAF! Just get a can of MAF cleaner at any auto pats store. I loosen the clamp to the throttle body and take the lid and all off the car and spray, let dry, and put back on. If you spray the MAF while it's still on the car be sure that there is no power to it. Unplug the sensor wire. If you leave your key on, your MAF is toast.

I've heard of plenty of people that used brake cleaner on them. Me being one of them. No issues here .

Ya in order to clean the maf completely you will need to take it off.

I went and got a can of maf cleaner, took it off the car, sprayed it, let dry, put back on, and no cuting out or wierd smell now! Either it's a coincidence, or that really fixed it! It's just hard for me to believe that dirty wires could do all that, since i am used to carburated cars with mechanical fuel pumps. Well Thanks everyone!

Those little wires tell the computer how much air the engine is getting so the computer can talk to the injectors. The settings on most carburators are manual and don't change until you do it.

The computer controls all the fuel mixture, timing advance, air flow, etc. So dirty Mass Air Flow wires tend to matter.

Hope that fixed your problem.

Glad to hear that fixed it. Nothing un common about dirty MAF wires, sometimes jsut hard to figure it out. Hopefully that fixed it for good .
