Default Another possible VATS question

My buddy has a 98 z28..

His symptom is a cranks no start. Checked Fuel pressure, was good, no security light.

If he leaves the keys in the on position for about 30 seconds it starts and runs fine with no driveabilty issues.

It acts the same for both sets of keys. I don't know much about the VATS other than what I learned in a search on here, but could it be a worn sensor in the ignition switch?

Thanks in advance

You can try bypassing the VATS with a resistor, see if the problem goes away.

Doesn't sound like typical VATS issue if the car is cranking normally and no security light - unless maybe a P1626 fuel not enabled code? You didn't mention a SES light or codes. I'd try cranking the car for 15 seconds when it won't start then check for any codes. No expert but thinking it's fuel related.

Yes, this is correct there are no codes.. I did not personally check the fuel pressure, but he told me it was good. This will take more looking into, I appreciate the thoughts

He may have checked the pressure after it had time to build up. I think it's the pump or fueling related. I'd check it right after the key was turned and go from there.
