Valvetrain Tapping 2002 Trans Am. My car has started to make a tapping noise about 2000 miles ago. I thought at first it was just the usual piston slap. However, the tapping noise stays there the entire time. Doesn't matter if it's hot or cold, it taps 24/7 now. It's taps relative to RPM. It's coming from under the valve cover on the driver's side. It's not loud, but definately noticeable.
What do ya'll think could be the problem? The stealership told me I was crazy and that the sound is normal, I don't believe it is. It's still under an extended GM warranty so i'd like to get this fixed for free while I still can.
