Default Anyone Recharge Their Own AC?

I broke a fitting and was curious if you can recharge these at home or if it has to be taken somewhere. Thanks

yes....I broke loose the connector at the ac condenser(right at the radiator) so it all leaked out....Got a new o-ring for it.....sinched it down....got the stuff from auto store and did it all myself....
way less than taking it somewhere to be done....like 1/3 the price.

You can do it , compressors like air and moisture mixed with refrigerant - not, evacuate it than charge it.

Ok, listen to him. Compressors will blow apart at the seams if moisture gets in it. You have to be very careful when deal with moisture in the high side. I am going out on a limb here and assuming you do not have an A/C machine. If you think about just discharging it into the atmosphere and then charging it, that will destroy your system. You need to pull a vacuum on the system at 28 Hg for about 15 minutes at the very least to be safe. If you are gonna keep A/C, have someone do it.

I did mine. My neighbor has one of those pumps to evacute the moisture. It took hours to get it down to -28. After that I added one can of the oil stuff and two cans of 134. You can get a kit a Walmart that has a thermometer AND one of those gauges you push onto the low side to see if you have too much or too little refrigerant for under $10. It works because the temp at the vent is like 54 degrees. Not bad for a gear head.
