Default Negative Effects of blocking off an X pipe?

Would there be any negative effects (flowwise) if i blocked off one of the legs of an x pipe and put a valve on it? In other words, most of the time i would just have the exhaust flowing out one tube into a catback, but then have the option to open up and have true duals. (Im really wanting to stay away from a y pipe) I would assume there would be no ill effects, as a borla catback works somewhat similar, with one pipe either being blocked off or straight through. TIA

Wouldn't this be the same as A cutout. It seems to me the valve in the cutout is the other "leg" that is not used until needed. The exhaust would still go into the other "leg" into the catback just like your x-pipe idea. True duals would inmost people's minds be two roughly identical pipes that flow roughly the same, I do not think your option would be true duals, in that one pipe is much more restricted (i.e. longer and having a muffler.)

I forgot to put in my original post that there would be a cutout on the catbacked side. So basically its gonna be headers, x, two cutouts, and then a catback. Does this make more sense?

so if there is 2 cutouts before the muffler then your not blocking off anything.
i dont know why you would go through the trouble of an x-pipe with cutouts blocking it of and this and that when you could just get a y-pipe, put 1 cutout after the y and have the same kind of flow as you would with an x and 2 cutouts after it

/\ __at this point there would be a cutout on the
_| right a valve on the left. I would think
_| this would flow better than a y.

IMO, you would lose quite a bit of flow with your X-pipe cutout closed.
