Would this work as an air filter?
The FT is nice but I hit one parking stop and it ripped right off, and messed up my bumper. I'll never buy one again and it sits in front of the radiator, stopping some airflow.

The bumper support offers little to almost zero protection in a medium to serious crash, if that's what you're worried about. It's only rated to 25-30mph, which nobody usually gets hurt. At speeds where injuries usually occur, the bumper support doesn't do anything except crumble with the rest of the front end

I would leave the bumper support in place too. The SUX2BU or the pics above look like *** anyway. Just do a FTRA or an SLP or similar. They are easy to install and look like they should be there. I don't think you would benefit from the custom maf housing filter setup due to a loss in filter area, I believe you would gain too much restriction. This is why there is soo much area on an air filter, to make up for the restriction. just my .02
I agree. The filter acts as a restriction in the first place and to reduce its size would kill air flow.
